About Pā Muliwai

Pā Muliwai — “river table”

The name Pā Muliwai pairs pā with muliwai (river, estuary) — our “river table.” Pā Muliwai is Jonathon Loren’s small studio in Salem, Oregon, devoted to one idea: a live-edge river table where the river isn’t only resin — real water flows and falls.

Each table is built by hand as a custom piece, pairing rustic, natural-edge slabs with a clean, modern finish and a recirculating waterfall system.

Wai (fresh water), waiwai (wealth), and the ʻāina (land)

In Hawaiian, wai is fresh water, and waiwai — the word doubled — means wealth. The ahupuaʻa, a traditional land division, commonly stretched from the mountains to the sea, typically following a stream that sustained the people living along it.

We build with respect for that relationship: aloha ʻāina (love for the land) and mālama (to care for). That means using wood thoughtfully and building tables meant to last generations.

Island woods

Koa (Acacia koa) is a tree endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, prized for its rich, often curly grain. Monkeypod and mango are introduced trees that grow widely in Hawaiʻi and yield beautiful slabs.
